How to prevent snow lumps in the fur?

Many dogs suffer from the snow lumps in winter. Because sometimes the clumps are so strong that the dog can no longer walk at all, and you can only loosen the clumps with a lot of effort.

As a dog groomer, I am often asked what can be done about this. Unfortunately, I have not yet found a solution, except the shorter the hair, the fewer snow clumps.

If your dog only has problems with the paws, then it definitely helps if you regularly shorten the inner paws with a paw clipper.

You can find our recommendations for a paw clipper below.

My personal tip:

I put a watering can of hot water in the cloakroom before I go for a walk. When we are back from the snowy adventure, I pour the water—which is now lukewarm (please never use hot water!) — over the worst clumps, which then simply melt away.
